El cantante Michael Jackson, muerto el 25 de junio de 2009, con 50 años de edad, anunció el pasado 5 de marzo en Londres, en una multitudinaria y breve comparecencia pública, que actuaría por última vez en la capital británica el próximo mes de julio, en una serie de conciertos en los que interpretará sus canciones más conocidas.

Con hora y media de retraso sobre el horario previsto, el rey del pop acudió desde su lujoso hotel en el centro de Londres hasta el recinto de la sala de conciertos 02 Arena, donde le esperaban decenas de periodistas y cientos de admiradores que querían ver y escuchar al cantante.

El momento deseado llegó y Jackson, vestido con un traje negro con lentejuelas plateadas con un cierto aire Elvis Presley, salió sonriente al escenario, en el que sobre un fondo rojo se podía leer en grandes letras la frase “This is it” (Esto es lo que hay). Su intervención no duró más de tres minutos.

“Sólo quiero decir que estas serán mis últimas actuaciones en Londres. Cuando digo que esto es lo que hay, esto es lo que hay. Tocaré las canciones que mis fans quieren oír”, dijo el artista.

“Estas serán las funciones en las que se bajará el telón. Los veré en julio. Los quiero mucho. De verdad, desde lo más profundo de mi corazón. Esto es lo que hay y nos vemos en julio”, añadió Jackson.

La expectativa era máxima y los periodistas habían sido citados dos horas antes de la hora prevista para la comparecencia del cantante, las 16.00 GMT, para ocupar sus lugares, esperando que el cantante anunciara fechas concretas para sus actuaciones en Londres.

Sus gestos finales de euforia, arrodillándose y levantando el puño, pusieron fin a su presencia en el escenario.
